Dr. Spano has been practicing trichology for 25 years. He often lectures in Melbourne and works in close collaboration with many popular hair companies. Trichology is a term that is significant to anyone that has ever suffered from scalp problems or hair loss. A Trichologist is a specialist that have been trained to treat people with scalp conditions and hair loss including the following conditions:

  • Psoriasis
  • Alopecia areata
  • General diffuse thinning
  • Dandruff
  • Male pattern thinning
  • Seborrheic dermatitis
  • Scarring alopecia
  • Pityriasis amiantacea

Treatments are both straightforward and cost-effective with a combination of nutrition, diet, vitamin, amino acid and mineral supplements and/or particular creams for scalp problems, created to generate safe and effective results. Dr. Spano provides a hair trace mineral analysis test. In this trace test up to 30 different minerals can be discovered in your hair.

The list of trace minerals include:

  • CALCIUM PHOSPHOROUS
  • MAGNESIUM
  • CHROMIUM
  • SODIUM
  • MANGANESE
  • SULPHUR
  • ZINC
  • POTASSIUM
  • COBALT
  • BORON
  • COPPER
  • SELENIUM
  • MOLYBDENUM
  • VANADIUM

Toxic minerals:

  • LEAD
  • ARSENIC
  • MERCURY
  • CADMIUM
  • ALUMINIUM
  • NICKEL
  • BERYLLIUM
  • ANTIMONY

A hair sample is gathered by cutting the hair near the scalp in the neck area. A small amount of hair is required for the test, about the equivalent to a tablespoon. The hair sample cannot be bleached, colored, or permed and must be natural hair for the test to be accurate. The sample of hair is cleaned in a solvent solution and water, dried, weighed, dried and put in a special acid solution and then dissolved. The solution is then examined by laboratory instruments which measures the minerals that are in the hair. A report is created by the technician and any anomalies detected will turn up in a computer generated statement. Anomalies may be caused by heart conditions, stress, low blood sugar, hair loss, scalp/skin conditions and many other health problems – most of which can often at times be reduced through diet and nutritional supplements. Hair trace mineral analysis can also be used to improve performance. For example, heavy metals like lead have been linked to offensive behaviour, a decline in spelling and reading, dyslexia and emotional disturbances. Increased aluminium and the interaction of aluminium with lead were significantly related to decreased visual-motor performance. Levels of metals that were once thought harmless may be linked to emotional disturbances in children. Therefore; this tells us that test for toxins, find the source and play a vital role in treating the problem.
